15 Mistakes I Made On the Road to Publication

Back by popular demand: The 15 Mistakes I Made On the Road to Publication
  1. I thought I needed an agent.
  2. I thought I had to go through traditional publishing and print channels.
  3. I didn’t think it would take five years.
  4. I thought Harlequin ruled the world.
  5. I underestimated how generous, supportive and welcoming writers were. I am amazed everyday.
  6. I should have gone to RWA Nationals the year I started writing. I should have joined TARA from the get-go.
  7. I should have kept reading. I started writing at night instead of reading. And I was afraid of indadvertedly plagiarizing another author’s work. The writing is wired into you; reading other books, especially in your genre, can only make you a better writer and keep your creative juices flowing.
  8. I should always write the last chapter first. I should have known this from the beginning since I find myself reading the last few pages of a book midway through chapter two. It’s deliciously torturous knowing the ending, without knowing how that ending came to be.
  9. I should have brought The Emotion Thesaurus by Angela Ackerman and Becca Puglist before I wrote my first book instead of when I was editing my second.
  10. I should have shouted that I was writing from the rooftops instead of keeping it to myself.
  11. I should have known the last rejection hurts just as much as the first one.
  12. I should have gotten an iPhone two years ago.
  13. I should have joined a critique group.
  14. I should have known that writing the book was the easy part.
  15. I knew how bad I wanted it, so I should have known I could do it.
But the one thing I did right? I never gave up! And here I am!

(First and) Last Chance of a Lifetime

November marks the release of my third novel and the conclusion of my Chances trilogy, Last Chance. When I started writing Second Chance five years ago, a trilogy was the farthest thing from my mind. Moira and Paul's story was originally part of that first novel. But as Lindsay and Brian's adventure evolved, I realized there wasn't room in the book to do Moira and Paul justice, not to mention the beauty of the Lake Tahoe winter. And since Delaney and Mike's Chance Encounter was dancing relentlessly in my head, I put Moira and Paul on hold. Now it’s their turn for Happily Ever After. I hope you're as happy to see them again as I am! Although Second Chance will always be the book of my heart and Chance Encounter was the most fun to write of the three, there is a lot of me in Moira Brody. My first chance at love became the love of my life too. And what better way to conclude the Chances trilogy than to come full circle.

In Second Chance, star-crossed lovers Lindsay Foster and Brian Rembrandt get a second chance at love amid the brilliant blue waters of Lake Tahoe. In Chance Encounter, Delaney Richards and Mike Savoy’s quest for love takes them from Tahoe’s fawn-colored shores to the serpentine streets of San Francisco. But the heat in Last Chance comes not from the blazing summer sun and rugged, white-hot sand, but from the prurient, torrid fervor between lifelong friends Moira Brody and Paul Webster.  And even the single-digit temperatures of the Lake Tahoe winter are no match for their long-bridled desire.

Moira Brody knows Paul Webster better than he knows himself. But neither one of them know that he is as desperately in love with her as she is with him. Still, she isn't going to wait around forever.

Or so she tells herself.

Even on Valentine's Day.
Neither is chiseled-jaw, spring ski-tanned, broad-shouldered Jason Parker. Especially on Valentine's Day.
And when Paul finally gets out of his own way, he finds that out the hard way. And has no choice but to take matters into his own hands.
Literally.
But first Paul and Moira have to do something they’ve never done before: Go on a date.
A first date that turns into a passion-filled night together, something Moira has waited a long time for.
Decades, in fact.
She has a whole lot of making up to do. And Paul is more than happy to oblige her.
As the veil between love and friendship grows increasingly thin between them, Paul lets his guarded heart fall in love with Moira.
And he might not be the only one.
But it's more complicated than that.
These lifelong friends will have to look at each other with fresh eyes and brave hearts. And not everybody is on their side.
Including the truth. And the past. And even fate.
And when those three collide, it's only the beginning of the life-changing epiphanies.
Beneath the blinding blue sky and snow-caped peaks of the Sierras hearts will be broken, secrets revealed, choices made.
Moira will take an epic leap of faith and Paul will take the ultimate risk--again. They'll come full-circle, but there will be plenty of collateral damage along the way.
Until they realize that their Last Chance at love was really their first.

(Chance) Encounter of a Lifetime

This week marks the release of my second novel, Chance Encounter, the second installment in my Chances trilogy. We can all think of books we couldn't wait to finish, yet at the same time didn't want to end. That's how I felt about Second Chance; I wanted to continue the story through another set of eyes.

In Second Chance, star-crossed lovers Brian Rembrandt and Lindsay Foster get a second chance at love. And their wedding beneath the twinkling stars of Lake Tahoe serves as the perfect backdrop for another match made in heaven. But it's more complicated than that...

The last thing Delaney Richards was looking for at college roommate Lindsay Foster's wedding was love. The long hours at the office were finally paying off--she could all but feel the vice-presidency in her bones. And she was counting on this week in San Francisco to seal the deal. But first she had to get through the wedding--Delaney's first since her own. Almost wedding, that is. You can't have a wedding without a groom.

Renowned ladies' man Mike Savoy hadn't counted on seeing devastatingly beautiful Delaney Richards again at his best friends' wedding in Tahoe, let alone find himself falling in love with her. Now he has to convince her the feeling is mutual--and unfailing. But the past can be a killer. And the only way Mike can ensure a future with Delaney is to push her away. But when blackmail turns to ransom,  Mike is the only one who can save her. To survive, Delaney must trust the heart that once betrayed her.

Travel with me from the fawn-colored shores and sapphire blue waters of Lake Tahoe to the gray cotton-cloaked skyline and serpentine streets of San Francisco and fall in love all over again.

Welcome to the blog post I've waited a lifetime to write. It's release week for Second Chance, my Chances trilogy opener and the book of my heart.  I fell a little deeper in love with writing with each installment of this trilogy, just as Lindsay and Brian fell a little deeper in love with each other in Second Chance.

I hope you will too...

Here's a quick synopsis:

Lindsay Foster has convinced herself that marrying Paul Webster is the right thing to do. But now that Brian Rembrandt is standing in front of her again, undressing her with his eyes, she finds herself torn between the life she's always wanted and the man she'll always love.

Brian's up for that fight; he's used to getting what he wants. And he's never met a rule, or a woman, that couldn't be broken. So when Lindsay won't come to him, he goes to her.

But it's more complicated than that. This love triangle has an extra side. Lindsay's best friend Moira Brody has a game-changing secret.  And she's not the only one.

Even Brian is no match for what happens next. The chain of events set in motion on the tranquil shores of Lake Tahoe come to an astonishing end on a foggy San Francisco night.  And change the course of four lives forever.
